McCarthy Medical Marketing has developed a comprehensive eMedication Administration (eMA) system for administering medications. The program was tested and validated in a clinical trial, funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, at 80 schools in six states. It embeds a standardized practice of safety and accuracy in medication administration.

The original system is comprised of two components: unlicensed-staff training and portable automated documentation of medication administration.

The training program is a series of eLearning modules that present information about common diseases and conditions affecting children as well as information about frequently used prescription and over-the-counter medications.

The documentation system allows nurses to schedule medications online through a secure HIPAA-compliant website. They monitor, through the secure website, the performance of staff administering medication. Custom medication administration reports can be generated.

The educational program is so thorough and easy to understand. My staff really enjoyed it.

I had never been trained in anaphylaxis or Epipen use and was worried about having to deal with an allergic reaction situation. Shortly after I finished the training, I had a child who was having a severe allergic reaction. I knew exactly what to do and did not panic. I handled the situation calmly with confidence.

The MedsRight program greatly improves the nurse’s supervision of unlicensed staff because of the quality training and the automated documentation.
-School Nurse from Alabama

Great educational opportunity! The information in the educational training program is very comprehensive.
-School Nurse from Michigan

I discovered mistakes I had been making and did not know that I had been doing things incorrectly.

I love that the PDA can chart a medication administration right then and there. There’s no second-guessing yourself.
-School Nurse from Detroit

The PDA reminds you when it’s time to give a med. This is very important and allows us to focus on other things and not have to keep thinking, “Am I forgetting something?”
-School Nurse from Pontiac, Michigan

We would love to use it permanently, but it may be unaffordable for schools because of continuous budget cuts.

The MedsRight Program increases confidentiality in so many ways.
We love that the program is portable… you can do the training on any computer and you can carry the PDA with you wherever you go. This is great!

-School Nurse from Detroit

Our secretaries really liked it because they didn’t have to carry around a big book when it was time to give a med. They felt like it was not only more convenient, but also safer and more confidential.

Medication documentation is much improved, especially with the “lock out” feature which occurs if a medication is not given when it is scheduled.
-School Nurse from Pontiac, Michigan

Having the photos of kids and the meds is fantastic. I feel confident knowing that I am taking extra measures in positive identification of both the child and the medication.
-School Nurse from Alabama

The ease in documentation is wonderful.
-School Nurse from Detroit

The medication administration reminder system is brilliant! We all feel as if we are getting extra support knowing that we will be reminded when it is time to give a medication.
-School Nurse from Alabama

The MedsRight system opened our eyes to problems we didn’t realize we had and helped us to isolate the problems in order to solve them.
-School Nurse from Detroit

The tracking capability for nurses is invaluable. We cannot always be there and it gives us peace of mind knowing we can check on situations when we are out of the building.
-School Nurse from Alabama

With the PDA system and the photos of the child and the medication we make fewer errors because it is much harder to mix up kids identities.
-School Nurse from Detroit

I really liked that I could take my own time going through the program. I could go back and listen as many times as I needed to. Sometimes I have felt badly about myself in a group setting because I need a little more time to take it all in. It was nice to be able to complete this program in private.

Good refresher course, even for nurses.

Absolutely phenomenal! Great for large schools! Great for use with substitutes!
